Why is DJI Mavic Pro Close To Be The Most Expensive Drone Nowadays?

DJI Mavic Pro is the camera equipped drone. The gadget is smallest in DJI is line-up. Quadcopter by the Chinese company offers the affordability, portability and ease of use.

Features may not be too enhanced to offer HD results in changing light conditions, but they are efficient during normal situation. Drone is designed to offer, an optimum flight time, live video feed from its camera on your smartphone, 4k video recording, long range video recording and many other such options.

The most eminent feature is the portability that offers convenience of use.

DJI Mavic Pro Design

The drone features a small camera with 1/2.3 sensor. It captures 12 MP stills in JPEG and DNG RAW format. Video resolutions vary from 4k at 30fps and 1080 pixels at 96fps.

A tiny motorised gimbal acts as the base for the camera; it combines with drone’s suite sensors to adjust according to the best required level.

Apart from photography cameras, there are four cameras, two backwards and two on fronts. Downwards cameras help in detection of drone when it goes a bit out of the range of GPS tracker. In this way, downward cameras are a great way to keep the device well positioned.

Front cameras, help to detect any obstacles, like trees, poles or other such hurdles. Bear in mind, that there is no way to prevent collision of drone with any backward obstacle. So, you are more likely to hit windows or any such hurdles.

The controller comes up with a smartphone accommodator. It connects to drone via RC or Wi-Fi. It allows viewing 1080 p video footage of drone camera. Moreover, the drone can fly to 3-4 miles, but limit depends upon the laws of the country in which you live.

How Does DJI Mavic Pro Works?

When it comes to flying, then DJI Mavic Pro offers much faster experience. Flier can set the speed input in start and change it during the flight. While being on sport mode DJI Mavic Pro can hit the speed of 40mph. In every flying mode, it is possible to change the speed through effective use of remote control. Speed changing features gets more significant when flier needs to see more enhanced or detailed video footage.

Another important feature is the ascending and descending pattern of DJI Mavic Pro. Such regularity of moving up and down, gives a certain degree to the flier, leading in less battery consumption.

Drone is not too much ideal in terms of battery life. In regular mode, drone can remain in air for 27 minutes. In sports mode, battery consumption increases more and hence the air time is cut short. Here, one may need to invest extra in batteries, rendering the affordability feature quite useless. Battery also takes one complete hour for recharge.

Footage and Photo Quality

4k video footage and high photo quality is efficient feature. Videos are enhanced and clear, they can’t be believed to come from a smaller camera. Pictures with 1080 pixels of resolution may not carry an impact that may be required in general. Further, in absence of light, one can expect relatively blurry images.

Well, 12MP JPEGs are relatively more impactful. Zoom out on PC or laptop screen reveals them to be more clean and sharp. While, deciding to go for DJI Mavic Pro, don’t ignore the size of camera. Small and tiny camera is perfect for shooting during day light. In night it can’t avoid distortion in video as well as still images. Yes, in darkness, achieving sharpness and contrast in picture is not possible.

The DJI Mavic Pro drone is an efficient, portable and affordable device. It doesn’t boost long battery life. Photo and video quality is much clear and sharp, except few light conditions. Considering, the Cost VS Value rule, product is worth purchasing.

  1. I was flying my drone in normal mode with good connection and good satellites. I had return to home set on low battery level as well as disconnect from controller. I was just over 1500 feet away from the controller with a clear line of sight. I manually placed the drone into return to home mode. The home point was accurate on the map. The drone started to return home at about 20 miles per hour and was headed on a perfect route. The controller suddenly disconnected and the drone never returned home. I found the drone broken and beat up just under the last known location. The video file on the drone was never completed meaning the drone lost power or failed in mid air. I repaired the video which showed the drone flying towards home then ends at the same place the controller video and flight log ended.I went through the warranty process with DJI. They found that he battery was at 71 percent and the drone was in return to home mode. There were no abnormalities. Apparently this makes it my fault so they offered me a 30% discount on a new drone. What a slap in the face. I just spent $1300 on a drone that fell out of the sky on one of the first flights and you offer me a discount to spend even more money on your junk.Don’t trust this company with this amount of money. They do not accept responsibility when their hardware/software fails.

  2. Many buyers of the Mavic Pro have written and explained what a great drone this is. I won’t repeat any of that. Instead do this to get the most use and enjoyment out of this fantastic piece of technology. Take the time to view the many tutorials on You Tube that explain the amazing features this drone has to offer. The best videos I found were posted by the following people. Drone Valley, Ready-Set-Drone, Timothy Sunday. Ed Ricker, Billy Kyle and last but not least DJI Tutorials. These people will give you the confidence needed to get the most out of your drone and also what accessories you should buy to protect your drone from damage. In my opinion because the drone sits so close to the ground a landing pad which will prevent dirt from getting sucked into your drone and protect your delicate gimbal when landing in the grass or dirt is a must. A aftermarket gimbal cover with an opening in front of the camera lense adds more protection for the gimbal without blocking the cooling fans air intake. Landing gear extenders raise the drone and add 1 1/4″ to it’s ground clearance which is more than double. If you fly indoors or outside near trees, a set of propeller guards is a good investment. Finally in addition to the 1 year standard warranty covering factory defects, DJI offers a “Care” package for $99 which amounts to insurance that will replace your drone up to twice if you destroy it in a crash or drowned it in water for a deductible of $79 the first time and $129 the second. Follow my advice and learn from the available videos while you wait for your Mavic to arrive or as soon thereafter as possible and you will be very happy with your new drone.

  3.  I previously owned a DJI Phantom 3 Standard, which I totally recommend to getting into Ariel video/photography. It’s a really nice drone to ease into and make a smooth transition into something far more advanced in the shape of the DJI Mavic Pro. I was able to unbox and get it into the air in less than 30mins and begin to enjoy it. I even made a video about the process. Outside were winds of 22mph, which is the higher end of where DJI doesn’t want you to use it, but it held stable like a champ and was amazing. This drone can do some many things, but here’s a few…- Front-facing obstacle avoidance sensors, so it doesn’t smash into something going forwards (it can going backwards).- 40 mph speed on ‘sport mode’- 4k camera. Can shoot RAW video/photos- Comes with battery, remote and cables AND memory card (which is super nice, may want to upgrade for 4k video though as it will eat through it).- Tiny drone, really compact, and after dealing with the larger DJI Phantom 3 series, this was a blessing (can’t wait to travel with it, so much easier)- 4 mile range is crazy, but I prefer to keep close with good LOS (line of sight)- 27 min battery life is standard and decent. Always worth buying a backup so you can extend your flight times for more fun- Gimbal works great. You can also cheat and use it as a steadycam for normal ground / holding it shooting.- Props are more sophisticated than DJI Phantom series. You have to push down and twist, Phantom you just turn and they lock. Not a big issue.- Foldable arms is genius and lends to it being super portable and compact. Bless you DJI for this design.- Gesture control for photo is amazing function. Total selfie freaks can now rejoice.- Tracking feature is really cool. Previously had to purchase Litchi for this kind of thing, but it’s all embedded into it now.- You can fly without the remote, just with a cell/mobile device (awesome). Or just with remote (without cell/mobile).- Comes with actual instructions (you don’t need to download PDFs of DJI website).Hope this review was helpful. Please leave comments and I’ll check them when I can.UPDATE ### New DJI Do 4 app includes ability to record audio via your phone, also fixed wing mode, and ‘find my drone’ feature and ‘no fly zone’ map help. This app update is very helpful!
